Janice Bartizek

June 15, 1921 — July 2, 2011

Mrs. Janice "Jan" Bartizek, age 90 of Lebanon, Ohio and formerly of Lebanon, Connecticut passed away peacefully on July 2, 2011 at the Otterbein Transitional Care Unit in Lebanon, Ohio. Born June 15, 1921 in Coventry, Connecticut she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Rubie (Watrous) Spellacy. She was married to the late Frank Bartizek on April 7, 1947 (she said she chose 4/7/47 so he would remember it). He predeceased her on March 7, 2002. Besides the considerable work required of a dairy farm wife, she found time to be the local Lebanon reporter for the Willimantic Chronicle and Norwich Bulletin and administrative assistant in the Town of Lebanon Building Department for many years. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Lebanon, charter member and past president of the Lebanon Historical Society and was also a charter member of the Lebanon Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid poet and authored a book Frankie and the Cook shortly after Frank's passing. She is survived by her sister Charlotte "Charli" Adams of Holland, Michigan, her son Bob and his wife Ann Bartizek of Lebanon, Ohio and her grandson Brian and his wife Natalie Bartizek also of Lebanon, Ohio. She was predeceased by brothers Paul, Vernon, Francis and Alden Spellacy and sisters Mary "Molly" Lamon and Hazel Spellacy. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday July 9, 2011, at 1:00 PM at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic. Rev. Thomas Cowger will officiate. Interment will follow in New Lebanon Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held on Saturday afternoon one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 231, Lebanon, CT 06249 in her memory.
