Obituary

Janet Mulkern Laukaitis, who led a life of love, laughter, and adventure, passed away on August 15, 2026. She will always be remembered for her gentle spirit and kind heart. Born in Michigan on February 18, 1959, Janet was the wife of Mark Laukaitis, the mother of Jennifer Laukaitis, and a cherished daughter of John and Helen (Nell) Mulkern.

Janet enjoyed a loving 46 year partnership with her husband Mark. Together they enjoyed a life filled with adventures and deep companionship. They created many cherished memories while traveling, including a cross-country move from Colorado to Connecticut and many road trips along the East Coast. Professionally, Janet worked for more than 20 years at the Windham Regional Planning Agency. Janet's days were filled with music, and she enjoyed the thrill of a good game and the challenge of jigsaw puzzles. She never missed an opportunity to cheer on her beloved Yankees. Yet, it was the moments spent with friends and her large, loving family that brought Janet the greatest joy. Janet had a unique sense of humor that could fill a room with laughter. Her beautiful smile, gentle heart, and quick wit will remain in our hearts forever.

A devoted mother to her daughter Jenn and son-in-law Jose Arriaga, Janet's world expanded with the arrival of her beloved grandchildren, Reagan, Mia, Makayla, and Jalen. Janet is also survived by her mother Nell Mulkern and her siblings, Sue Esposito (James), Sharon Ware (Dave), Steve Mulkern (Marie), John Mulkern (Sue), Peter Mulkern, Judy Mulkern (Fiancé Mike Kasperski), and Michael Mulkern (Ellie) along with many nieces and nephews, who were a constant source of love and joy in her life.

Janet was predeceased by her father, John Mulkern, father-in-law, Tony Laukaitis, and mother-in-law, Donna Laukaitis.

In keeping with Janet’s wishes, the family suggests that donations be made in her honor to a charity of your choice. Calling hours will be held Tuesday August 18, 2026 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic CT. Her Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at 10:00am at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, 211 Broadway St. Norwich CT.
