Janet "Jennie" Lachack of North Franklin passed away February 13 at the Norwichtown Rehabilitation & Care Center. Janet was born in Franklin on her family's farm to Wasyl and Mary (Sowitch) Evanyshyn on August 22, 1919. She attended one-room schools and graduated from Windham High School in 1938. In July 1940 she was united in marriage to Walter A. Lachack in Hartford and moved to New York City where she worked in Alexander's Department Store and was an avid bowler and active Girl Scout leader. She returned to Franklin upon retirement of her husband in 1969, where for many years she was involved in the Franklin Democratic Town Committee, Franklin Senior Citizens, and the Ukrainian National Home in North Windham. Besides bowling and family activities, she enjoyed bingo, traveling, needlework, knitting, gardening, soap operas, polka dancing and playing cards. Until ill health set in, she was a communicant of St. Mary's Ukrainian Church of Colchester. Janet was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, and two sisters, Vera Worobey and Anastasia Bogdanowicz. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Walter and Remedios Lachack of Florida, daughter and son-in-law Janet and Ronald DeCarolis, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Her family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday February 17, 20011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., (Rte. 195) Willimantic. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, February 18th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Ukrainian Church, 178 Linwood Ave., Colchester. Burial will follow in Pautipaug Cemetery, Franklin.
