James Morascini Obituary
James L. “Jaybird” Morascini, Age 67, passed away unexpectedly at his home on December 9, 2024.  His beautiful free spirit and loving soul has departed this earthly plane. His audio genius was needed in the musical spheres of the heavens, and he could never say no to a challenging mixing job.

Jay was the epitome of sound and the creation of it through mixing and special effects.  He spent his entire life immersed in the mixing of sounds; an incredible audio technician / engineer, who created magic within the groups of musicians he worked with.  He had a natural, unique understanding of what he wanted to hear and was able to pull that sound out of the musicians on stage.  Jay began his magical journey at a very young age.  Piano lessons at 5 years old opened a door to the possibilities of what music had to offer, but performing was not his passion.  He immersed himself in sounds, pursuing every avenue to create a magical atmosphere.  He bent the rules by using audio equipment that was defunct to create and build his own systems, constantly experimenting with every genre of music to create the “perfect mix” that he was feeling into a beautiful reality.                                         It was at the Shaboo Inn in Mansfield that he met his friend and mentor Skip Weeks and under Skip’s tutelage, Jaybird really began to understand what he was looking for.  Jay and Skip could be found at most every show that passed through the doors of the Shaboo Inn.  He became passionately driven in his pursuit of the perfect, ultimate sound. The next step in his career became the “road show” circuit.  He went out into the world of concert touring with the likes of B.B. King, Bruce Springsteen, Marshall Tucker, and Maceo Parker to name a few.  He was there at the very beginning of David “Lefty” Foster’s Shaboo Allstars, and travelled for many years with the group, mixing up that “BIG’ sound. One of ‘The Bird’s’ all-time favorite bands to travel with were the Commitments from Ireland. He became fast friends with Dickie and the crew, where he learned there was a whole new world opening to him. He worked in many concert venues in and around the New England area. If you attended any concerts in the area, you would be sure to see Jaybird at the soundboard.  He gave freely, of his time and talent to any fundraising and charitable cause with great joy.  A most generous, kind and caring person.  A truly gentle soul.                                                                                                                                                                                      Jay is survived by his brother Anthony B. Morascini and sister Lynne E. Morascini.  His nephews and neices, Tony P. Morascini, his wife Jill and their children A.J. and Dylan.  Sean D. Skorton, his partner Erica and their children, Jade, Kira, Leon and Maxx.  Joshua Skorton, Adam Lehmann, Christena Cintia, her husband Billy and their children A. J. and Sienna as well as 12 cousins from the Piscatello, Moore, and Hochberg families. Jay was predeceased by his parents, Anthony A. and Jeanne E. Morascini, His brothers, David J. and Jonathan I. Morascini and his sister Marianne Morascini.  His Uncles, Bob Piscatello, Marshall Moore and David Hochberg.  His Aunts Ann ‘Dolly’ Moore and Carol ‘Dee’ Hochberg.   Burial services will be private.  There will be a celebration of life for Jay to be held at a later date that will be announced via Facebook and the Potter Funeral Home website.  He will be overwhelmingly missed by all.
