James J. Gilligan

James J. Gilligan, 77, of Mansfield, husband of Jean (Rogers) Gilligan, died Monday morning Nov. 10, 2003 at his home. He was born Nov. 17, 1926 in Norwalk, the son of James and Mary (Freeman) Gilligan. He was a graduate of Norwalk High School and attended UConn. Jim served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WW2 in the Pacific Theater during the Occupation of Japan. He was the Sales Manager at Electro-Motive Manufacturing Co. in Willimantic for over 20 years and at the time of his death was the Sales Manager at SEMCO. Jim was an active member of the Willimantic Country Club for 53 years. He was a Past President and was the Club Champion in 1962 and 1963. His Irish wit made him a popular speaker and his great sense of humor will live forever in the hearts of many. In addition to his wife of 55 years, he is survived by 2 daughters; Patricia Gilligan and her husband Mark Mendenhall of Chaplin and Noreen Piscatelli and her husband John of N. Windham, a son Sean Gilligan of Morrisville, N.C., a granddaughter Tina Piscatelli, a grandson Ryan Piscatelli and a great grandson Ryan Piscatelli. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00pm. His funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:00am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Mansfield Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, 238 W. Town St., Norwich, Ct. 06360.
