James Decarli

James Decarli, 70, of Willington, husband of Marcia (Drury) Decarli, died Saturday, September 18, 2010 at home with his family at his side after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born January 23, 1940 in Hartford, the son of the late Peter and Mary (Tompkins) Decarli and had lived in Willington over thirty years. He grew up in West Hartford, was a graduate of the West Hartford School System and Monterey Junior College in California. James held a CT Arborist license, was a stone mason and owned and operated J&D Landscaping. He was a U.S. Army Ranger, a member of the 82nd Airborne and saw combat in the Dominican Republic. He was an athletic sports enthusiast, playing baseball in the Army, coaching his sons' sports teams, enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the American Legion in Willington. In addition to his wife of 36 years he is survived by two sons, Peter and William Decarli, both of Willimantic, a granddaughter, Emily Decarli and a brother, Wiley Decarli of Breckenridge, CO. His family will receive friends on Monday, September 20th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic. There will be a gathering at the funeral home on Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. prior to the procession to his Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Willimantic. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. His family would like to express their gratitude to the caregivers at Harford Hospital and the Infusion Center of Wethersfield and VNA East and Hospice.
