James Robert Cobb

July 5, 1940 — July 27, 2013

James Cobb of Columbia Connecticut, beloved husband for 54 years of Anne Thompson Cobb, ended his brave struggle with cancer on July 27th 2013 peacefully at home with his family by his side. Jim was born to Robert and May Cobb on July 5th 1940. He leaves three wonderful children, James II and wife Peggy Cobb, Joanne Cobb Vanasse and husband Bob, Chris and wife Dorothy Cobb. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Amy and David Cobb, Danielle and Emelie Vanasse, Amanda and her husband Eric Anderson, Tina and Allie Cobb, and Scott and Craig Riley, as well as five great-grandchildren, Colin and Jameson Cobb, and Aidan, Alayna, and Addison Riley. He also leaves his brother Arthur Cobb and sister Betty Dunnack, as well as sister-in-law Carol Flood. He will be missed by many close nieces and nephews and extended family friends including Jim, Karen, Ashley and Jordan Thompson and Cliff Church. He is predeceased by his brother Raymond Cobb and sister Dorothy Olson. Jim attended the Pine Street One-Room school house and eventually went on to become an accomplished builder, owning his own business. In addition, he worked over 50 years at the Center Church Camp, closely with dear friends Nancy and David Maclean, and was the camp's resident manager for the past 29 years. He loved his family, his trike, all sports, and Camp. His blunt honesty, grit, unique humor, craftsmanship, and work ethic defined him to those who knew and loved him, and made him an anchor to his family and friends. The family thanks all who helped Jim on his journey. A celebration of his life will be held at Columbia Congregational Church Saturday August 3rd at 4 pm. In lieu of calling hours, the family will be receiving guests following the service at 5:00 pm in the church Parish Hall. Graveside service will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Center Church Camp, 42 Route 87 Columbia CT 06237 or Columbia Congregational Church. The Potter funeral Home, Willimantic, assisted with arrangements.
