Jacqueline "Jackie" (Poirier) Simmons, of Windham, CT passed away on January 25, 2024.
Jackie was born in Danielson, CT on November 28, 1931 to the late Paul and Lea (Bolduc) Poirier. She was blessed with three brothers, Gilbert, Raymond, and Leopold Poirier all who predeceased her.
Jackie retired from Rogers Corporation in 1994, at which time she provided daycare for several of her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and several neighborhood children, all who have fond memories of time spent at "Grandma Birdhouses" home.
There wasn't anything Jackie was not able to achieve, create, improve, or repair, all of which would typically included an old piece of clothesline rope. Her creativity and ingenuity never failed to amaze us and was easily equal to that of her husband's talents.
She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, George R “Dick” Simmons, Jr. with whom she made her home in South Windham and lovingly raised their eight children. She was also predeceased by her sons Gary Simmons and David Simmons.
She is survived by her children George R. ”Rick” Simmons, III and wife Mary, Paul Simmons and wife Ronda, Thomas Simmons and partner Martha Dwyer, John Simmons and wife Kris, Marybeth LaFlamme and husband Scott, Tammy Judd and husband Daniel, Daughter-in-law Beth Simmons, and son Gary's partner Nancy Streeter. She also leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson.
Her family would like to give special thanks to Sandy Osafo, her caregiver for the last 4+ years, for her care and kindness. Her dedication and compassion played a huge role in allowing Jackie to remain in her home as long as possible. We would also like to thank the staff of Saint Joseph Living Center for their exceptional care during the last weeks of her life.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the convenience of the family.
