Jacob D. Martir

SPC Jacob David Martir-Gutierrez, 21, of Norwich, died in combat on Aug. 18, 2004 in Iraq. He was born Jan. 22, 1983 in Caguas, Puerto Rico. Jacob attended the Norwich Free Academy and Westover Job Corps Center in Chicopee, MA. He joined the United States Army in Feb. 2000. He is survived by his mother Lydia Gutierrez of Miami, FL., his siblings, Yesenia Rosas, Jasmin Antonetty of Miami, FL., Olgita Martir of Norwich, Elizabeth Martir of Hartford and Ismael Martir of Ft. Worth, TX.; his grandparents, Benci Lydia and Juan Gutierrez of Willimantic; his great grandmother Santa Lozada of Miami, FL.; his aunts, Paulina, Alba, Gladys, Doris and Leonor Gutierrez; his uncles, Hector Gutierrez and Juan A. Gutierrez Jr.; his nieces, Brittany Staples and Alicia Riley; and several cousins. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic Thursday, 8/26/04 from 5:00 to 8:00pm. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, 8/27/04 at 10:00am with burial following with full military honors in Maplewood Cemetery, Norwich.
