Jack Mathias Schneider

Rev. Jack Schneider, of Columbia, died March 2, 2013 at Hartford Hospital due to a fall at home. Rev. Schneider was the first pastor of Baptist Fellowship of Columbia, Connecticut for 47 years. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He received Christ as his Saviour and received the call to preach in the Euclid Baptist Church of St. Louis. Rev. Schneider had been a pastor since 1951, having served eight churches in Missouri, Texas and Connecticut. He preached evangelistic crusades in 12 states from the Midwest to New England. He also conducted retreats, been camp pastor at summer camps and taught the Bible in many seminars. Rev. Jack served as President of the Baptist Convention of New England; Evangelism Director for the Southern New England Baptist Association; Moderator of the Southern New England Baptist Association; a member of the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention as well as many other leadership roles. He was honored as Pastor Emeritus by his family, friends, and congregation in April, 2012. He continued preaching, teaching the Bible and ministering until his death. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ann (Wendover) Schneider and five children; Jack Dodson of Carmel Valley, CA, Jonathan Schneider of East Hartford, CT, Jacquelyn Dublin of Bolivar, MO, Jessica Delmastro of Columbia, CT and Julie Dobbins of Bolivar, MO; a total of nine grandchildren, Jack's brother, Rev. Jim Schneider of Groton, CT, Pastor of the Pleasant Valley Community Prayer and Praise for 51 years. Jack's life Bible verse given to him by his parents at birth was Colossians 3:1-4, "Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory." "Well done, good and faithful servant... Enter into the joy of your Master." Matthew 25:21 You are missed. Your loving family and friends. Visitations will be held on Friday March 8, 2013 2:00 to 4:00pm and 6:00 to 8:00pm at Baptist Fellowship, 195 Rte. 6, Columbia. The funeral service will be held at the church on Saturday at 10:00am. Interment in Center Cemetery, Columbia, will be private.
