J. Michael "Mike" Murphy, 47, of Scotland, husband of Michele "Chelly" (Gentile) Murphy, died Friday August 2, 2002 at Hartford Hospital of injuries received in a motorcycle accident. In addition to his wife he is survived by 3 children, Christopher Murphy, Elizabeth Murphy and Daniel Murphy, all at home, 2 sisters and a brother-in-law, Susan and Russell Ortner of Apopka, FL, Patricia Guy of New London, a brother and sister-in-law, Terrence and Nancy Murphy of Agawam, MA, numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was born June 14, 1955 in Stafford Springs, the son of the late Emmett and Jean (Andrews) Murphy, grew up in Windsor Locks and moved to Scotland 16 years ago. He was a graduate of the Morse School of Business and Manchester Community College. He was employed as a Judicial Marshall for the State of Connecticut. Prior to that he had been employed as assistant general manager of Windham Airport, by the Willimantic Chronicle and the Hartford Courant. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 11.00 a.m. at St. Margaret Church, Rte. 14, Scotland with assembly at the church.
