J. WARREN HIGGINS Active volunteer who loves to laugh and joke J. Warren Higgins of Mansfield Center, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, June 2, 2012. He was born May 1, l933, in Clearfield, Pennsylvania, the son of John and Venita Higgins. Warren was educated at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Bucknell University. He achieved his certificate as a Certified Public Accountant in Washington, D. C. Warren was a Korean War veteran serving in the United States Air Force from 1952 until l956. He was a Professor in the Economics Department of Allegheny College in Meadville, PA and was a Professor of Taxation in the Accounting Department at the University of Connecticut. He was the instructor of the VITA program at UCONN and was advisor to several organizations in the School of Business. He will be remembered for his work with senior citizens and their tax returns having served at the Mansfield Senior Center as a tax consultant for several years. He was a Den Father for the cub scouts and was a coach for the Mansfield Middle School baseball team and the Pony League team of Mansfield. Warren was a volunteer at the Covenant Soup Kitchen and Windham Area Interfaith Ministry. He was a member of Eastern Star Lodge #44 AF & AM. Warren will always be remembered for his jokes and his laugh. He is survived by his wife Carol Higgins, his daughter Cynthia and her husband Charles Dainton and their daughter Amanda of Mansfield Center; a son, Carl Higgins and his children, Rebecca and Kyle of Mansfield Center; a son Russell and his wife Karen Higgins, and their children, Thomas, Michael, and Sarah of Vernon; and a daughter Cheryl Higgins and her fiancAC. Kayle Knight, and their daughter, Elise of Simsbury. A memorial service will be held at St. Mark's Chapel, North Eagleville Road, Storrs, CT on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests donations to either the Covenant Soup Kitchen, 220 Valley Street, Willimantic, CT 06226 or to the Windham Area Interfaith Ministry, P. O.
