Isabelle Osso Stygar

Isabelle Annie(Osso) Stygar, of Willimantic, passed away peacefully May 6, 2012 at the age of 89 with her family at her side. She was born in Willimantic, Connecticut on September 5, 1922, the daughter of the late Abraham Osso and Mary (Kababay)LaChapelle. Isabelle spent her entire life in the Windham area, attending the Windham Schools and graduating from Windham High School in 1942. As a young girl, she spent countless hours helping her father run the family newstand located on what was then called Railroad Street in Willimantic. She married Chester J. Stygar, on December 1, 1945 and they were married for more than 50 years prior to Chester's death in 2000. Together they raised three children. During those years she worked at The American Thread Company and then for more than 35 years she worked and retired from the Brand Rex Company where she had been employed as a braider. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, son Glenn C. Stygar and his wife Peggy of Lebanon, daughter Christine A. Romanchuck and her husband Michael of Marlborough and son Timothy M. Stygar and his wife Kristina of Windham. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Carrie A. Prodhan, Jonathan R. Stygar, Amy DeMichele, Kevin Romanchuck, Kenneth Romanchuck, Melissa Romanchuck, Rebecca Stygar, Nicholas Stygar and Zachary Stygar. She also leaves behind four great granddaughters, a great grandson and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister Venice Osso of Tempe, Arizona. She was predeceased by her brother George Osso. Isabelle was a lifelong communicant of St. Joseph Church in Willimantic and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Pulaski -American Citizens Club. She was also very active in planning the Windham High School Class Reunions for the Class of 1942. Isabelle was a great cook, avid bingo player and a big fan of UCONN Women's Basketball. Most of all she enjoyed time spent with her children and grandchildren. Before leaving one event she was always sure to ask when the next "round up" was. Her family will receive relatives and friends at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson Street (Rte. 195) Willimantic, on Friday May 11, 2012 between 9:30 and 10:30am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson Street, Willimantic at 11:00 a.m. Her interment will be at the convenience of her family.
