Irma Bachmuts, 90, of Willimantic/South Windsor died early Saturday morning, July 31, 2010, at the South Windsor Rehabilitation & Nursing Home. She was born March 17, 1920, in Liepaja, Latvia and immigrated to the United States in 1949 with her husband and son. She lived in Willimantic for over 30 years and together with her husband owned and operated the European Bakery in Willimantic until her husband, Anreijs, retired. For the next ten years she continued to work at the University of Connecticut in Storrs. She is survived by her sister Otilija Vinkels-Straupenieks (95), her daughter-in-law Vija Bachmuts of South Windsor, her granddaughter Sandra Bachmuts Scully and her husband Kenneth, as well as her three great-great grandsons, Evan, Justin and Cole of Maynard, MA. The family will receive friends at the Latvian Lutheran Church, 76 Windham Road on Thursday, August 5th starting at 10:30 a.m., with the service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the New Willimantic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made payable to the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church and will be shared with the Occupation Museum of Latvia.
