Irene (Vaillancourt) Materas, 86, wife of the late Lawrence "Mike" Materas, of Willimantic and formerly of Norwich, died Friday morning Oct. 28, 2011 at Douglas Manor in Windham. She was born April 16, 1925 in Manchester, NH the daughter of Edmond and Maria Vaillancourt. Irene had been employed by Electro-Motive Manufacturing Co. and American Thread Co. both in Willimantic. She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed. She is survived by a daughter Kathleen Ross and her husband Francis of Westbrook; a son John Materas and his wife Teresa of Voluntown; two brothers, Bertrand Vaillancourt of E. Hampton and Edmond Vaillancourt Jr. of Zephyr Hills, FL; three grandchildren, Jennifer Braiden and her husband Timothy of Ivoryton, Jared Materas of Palmer, MA and Evan Materas of Voluntown; a great granddaughter Hailey Braiden of Ivoryton and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Violet Thiffeault. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Monday Oct. 31st between 9:30 and 10:30am at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic prior to her 11:00am Funeral Mass at St. Mary Church, Valley St. Willimantic.
