Ilze Indars

Ilze Indars, 79, died peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, surrounded by her family at their South Windham home. Born Ilze Vimba on Nov. 3, 1932, in Latvia, she was the daughter of Karlis and Marta (Ozolins) Vimba. World War II forced Ilze and her family to German refugee camps in 1944. They immigrated to America in June 1949. The family worked on farms in the Hudson, N.Y., area before moving to Willimantic in 1950. Ilze graduated from the Windham High School Class of 1951 and entered Hillyer College, now known as the University of Hartford. Soon after, Ilze was hired as an office manager by Nielsen Ford in Hartford. Ilze and Vic married on March 3, 1962. After raising a family, Ilze resumed her professional career in 1980, first as a U.S. Census taker and then as a bookkeeper for 19 years at the Willimantic Elks Lodge #1311. Ilze enjoyed her family, long conversations with her sisters, gardening, and following her beloved UConn Women's basketball team. Ilze is survived by her husband Vic Indars; daughter Elizabeth Perekrests of Roslindale, Mass., and son Martin Indars of West Chester, Pa.; sisters Eva Indars of Seekonk, Mass., Ruth Rogers of Fort Myers, Fla., and Mara Ayer of Windham Center; brothers-in-law Frank Rogers and Bill Ayer; grandsons Andrej and Jonathan Perekrests and granddaughter Lea Perekrests; son-in-law Andrew Perekrests; and other family and friends. She was predeceased by brother-in-law John Indars. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, at the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church at 76 Windham Road, Willimantic, and be followed by burial at the New Willimantic Cemetery, Route 32, Willimantic, Ct. There will be a small reception after the burial back at the Latvian Evangelical Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church, 76 Windham Road, Willimantic, Ct., 06226, or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Eastern Connecticut, 34 Ledgebrook Drive, Mansfield Center, Connecticut, 06250-0716.
