Ilona Hedlund

Ilona Hedlund of Willimantic, passed from this life on April 13, 2010. A resident of Willimantic for over 50 years, Mrs. Hedlund is survived by her daughter Hilda Girard, her grandson Michael Rambush, her granddaughters Selena and Nichole Girard, and her great-granddaughters Chloe Rambush and Kalia Dau, all of Knoxville, Tennessee. Born on January 2, 1927 in Rumania, Mrs. Hedlund survived the years of World War II living in Budapest and, near the end of the war, fleeing to Germany. After the armistice, she met and married James Hedlund, an American soldier. They had four children, all of whom grew up in Willimantic. Mrs. Hedlund has been a resident of the Regency Heights of Windham since August 2009. She passed away peacefully from natural causes. All services will be private.
