Hugh A. McKenna, 86, of Chaplin, CT formerly of Columbia, CT died peacefully at home on October 31, 2016. Hugh was born October 1, 1930 in New York, New York, the son of Hugh McKenna and Mary Ellen Cullen. Hugh worked for the Hartford Insurance Group for forty-four years, before retiring in 1993 to pursue his true vocation ? golf. Hugh resided in Columbia for thirty-nine years during which he was a communicant and lector at St. Columba Church. In 2015, Hugh moved to Chaplin to live with his daughter, Anne, and her family, who are grateful for every day they had with him. Hugh was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Gilda ?Jill? McKenna, and his six siblings: Rosemary, Josephine and Charlotte McKenna; Margaret McIntyre; Patricia McGowan; and John McKenna. Hugh leaves behind two daughters: Michele Pare and her spouse, Andre, of Columbia; and Anne Burnham and her spouse, Jeffrey, of Chaplin. Hugh also leaves behind five grandchildren who were the light of his life: Connor, Spencer and Sean Burnham; and Gracelyn and Abigail Pare. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly and to whom he was known as the Jolly Green Giant.
