Howard E. Root, 93, of Brooklyn, formerly of Canton, husband of Maida (Hopkins) Root, died Thursday September 11, 2003 in Brooklyn. He was born January 6, 1910 in West Hartford and graduated from the William H. Hall High School in West Hartford in 1928. He married his wife of over 70 years, Maida Hopkins on January 11, 1933 and lived in Canton for 75 years where he was employed as a carpenter. He and Maida are members of the Canton Center Congregational Church. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Louise and Philip Russell of Hampton, a son Howard Root Jr. of Granby, 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Funeral services and burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Hartford will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Music Fund of the Canton Center Congregational Church, P. O. Box 133, Canton Center, CT 06020-0133. Arrangements are through the Potter Funeral Home, Willimantic.
