Hope Marie (Chagnot) Vertefeuille, 48, of Hampton, CT, passed away peacefully at home on July 10, 2026, surrounded by the family who loved her fiercely, after a courageous five-year battle with cancer. Born in Willimantic, CT, Hope lived a life defined by love, honesty, and an unshakeable sense of humor. Whatever life brought her way, joyful or hard, she met it with the same steady grace Hope graduated from Windham High School and went on to spend over 20 years working at Hain Materials. She built a life in Hampton with her husband, David Vertefeuille, where the two of them spent time doing what they loved most; hot rod cruises with the windows down, motorcycle rides with no particular destination, and long lazy afternoons out on the lake just like her summers as a child. She was just as content on her “She Porch” with her Frenchies, Duncan and Louie, curled up by her side. If you knew Hope, you knew her real gift was people. Friends and family alike came to her for advice and left better for it. She had a way of telling you the truth without ever making you feel small, a “gentle-but-no-bullsh*t” wisdom that people trusted completely. She listened, she laughed easily, and she never pretended to be anything other than exactly who she was, except when playing with her Snapchat filters.

 Hope is survived by her husband, David Vertefeuille, her son, Dylan LeTourneau (partner Kayleigh Mahannah), her stepdaughter, Mikayla Vertefeuille (partner Erik Sudler), grandson Ezelio Sudler and granddaughter, Winter Sudler, her mother, Susan Michaud, her brothers, Clifford Kramer (partner Lynn Trudeau), Brian Chagnot (wife Kathleen), and Daniel Chagnot. She was predeceased by her father Rene Chagnot, and brother, John Chagnot (wife Amy), leaving behind brother, Edward Chagnot (wife Joni), and sister, Mary Chagnot. Additionally predeceased by stepmother, Terry Chagnot (wife of Rene), leaving behind sisters, Kristen Kane (wife Anne), Sandra Bryan (husband Michael), Brenda Haberin. Hope also leaves behind a large, adoring group of nieces and nephews, who she loved without measure. She was equally devoted to her friends, showing up without being asked and dropping everything the moment someone needed her, loyalty every bit as fierce as the love she gave her own family. 

Calling hours will be held on Friday July 17, 2026 at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic from 4:00 to 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Hope’s memory by enjoying a game night with family, hugging your dog a little tighter, and buying that extra purse just because.
