Hilda L. Schellig, 87, of Jordan Rd., South Windham, CT., died Thursday Oct. 23, 2003 at the John Dempsey Hospital, Farmington, CT. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, John ?Biff? Schellig. She was born March 14, 1916 in Staatsburg, N.Y. and resided in Hyde Park, N.Y. until 1980 when she and her husband moved to Inverness, FL. They moved to Connecticut this year. She was the Valedictorian of her high school class in Poughkeepsie in 1932. She then graduated as a R.N. from Vassar Hospital School of Nursing in Poughkeepsie in 1937. Mrs. Schellig attended New York University and majored in Public Health. She worked as a private practical nurse and for 7years beginning in 1950 as a VNA staff nurse in Poughkeepsie. For 10 years, she served as supervisor for the Heart Chapter?s Children?s Cardiac Clinic and for 20 years as Assistant Director of the Dutchess County Heart Chapter, both in Poughkeepsie. She had also served as the president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion in Staatsburg, N.Y. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter and son in law Lynn and Henry Hinckley of S. Windham, 3 grandchildren; John Hinckley and his wife Dawn of S. Windham, Russell Hinckley and his wife Kristen of Wallingford, CT. and Clark Hinckley of N.J. and 4 great grandchildren; Rebecca, Jessica, Samantha and Nathan. Her funeral service will be held on Monday 10/27/2003 at 11:00am at the First Congregational Church of Willimantic, 199 Valley St. Willimantic, CT. with the Rev. Richard Duvall officiating. Burial will be private in the Windham Center Cemetery. Her family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 to 11:00am on Monday.
