Herbert Bradley Scott, 84, of Pomfret, passed away peacefully at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam on Monday January 30, 2006. He was born in Hampton, the son of John S. Scott and Mary W. Scott. He graduated from Windham Trade School in Willimantic. Herbert was a quiet, sincere man. He served his country in the United States Army Air Force with the occupation forces in Japan after World War II. He worked as a truck driver for Sussman- Chevron Oil Company; as foreman of the Hampton Highway Dept. and as caretaker for Leo and Cynthia Harris of Hampton. He served as deacon at the Hampton Congregational Church, later as an elder at the Christian Fellowship Church in Scotland and in 1985 he moved to Pomfret and served as deacon at the Abington Congregational Church. Herbert enjoyed playing dart baseball for the Congregational Church teams. He was also an avid gardener who raised vegetables and beautiful flowers for his family and friends. Those who survive him are his wife of 39 years, Marion (Ellsworth) Pike Scott who he married on Aug. 26, 1966; his four adopted children and their spouses, Deborah P. Simpson and her husband Paul of Pomfret, Cynthia P. Piontak and her husband Gary of Catoosa, OK., Donald G. Pike and his wife Brenda of Pomfret and Peter D. Scott and his wife Jolene of Bethel, VT. He also leaves 13 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, 6 brothers in law and many faithful friends. He was predeceased by two former wives, Virginia Vargas and Louise Speeches, two brothers William and Harold and four sisters, Ruth, Dorothy, Virginia and Mildred. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Friday between 6:00 and 8:00pm. His funeral service will take place on Saturday at 10:30am at the Abington Congregational Church, Rte. 97, Abington, with Rev. Bruce Hedman and Rev. Sonny Stimson officiating. Interment will follow in Abington Cemetery.
