Henry E. Schone

Henry Edward Schone, 87, of Mansfield Center, CT passed away peacefully on January 27, 2014. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 18, 1926 to the late Edward G. and Catherine Peters Schone. Henry was educated in Brooklyn, NY and Stamford, CT and later graduated from Morse Business School. He received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Navy proudly serving in the Pacific during World War II for the Naval "Sea Bees" (Construction Brigade). Following his discharge, he returned to Connecticut and married Marie Murray, his high school sweetheart, on September 11, 1948 at St. Mary's Church, in Stamford, CT. Since moving to Mansfield Center Henry was a devoted parishioner of St. Joseph's Church of Willimantic, CT. Henry retired from the University of Connecticut after 34 years as a foreman of the Physical Plant and then spent ten years working for the Tolland Board of Education as the maintenance supervisor. Besides his wife of 65 years, he is survived by his son Robert Schone of Newport, RI; his daughter Mary Linda Stone and her husband Thomas of Ashford, CT; and his daughter Kathleen Hewitt of Glastonbury, CT. He was predeceased by his youngest son, John W. Schone, Sr. and daughter-in-law Janet Almon Schone. Henry also leaves behind a brother, Edward G. Schone of Spanish Fort, AL and seven grandchildren, Misty Stone Sorensen, Krista Stone, Kathryn Hewitt Redican, Sarah Hewitt, John Schone, Mary Schone, and Anna Schone. He also leaves two great-grandchildren Alexis Lathrop and Brady Sorensen. Henry was a devoted family man; a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. The Schone family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all their dear friends for the love, kindness and prayers over the past 7 months. His family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday Jan. 30, 2014 between 5:00 and 7:00pm at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday Jan. 31st at 11:00am at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic with assembly in the church parking area at 10:45am. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson Street, Willimantic, CT 06226.
