Helen (Budzinsky) Switchenko, born October 25, 1927, died peacefully in her sleep at home Monday morning October 19, 2009, six days before her 82nd birthday. Helen was married for 35 years to the late Michael Joseph Switchenko and was a graduate of Windham High School. She retired from the University of Connecticut in the Department of Residential Life and more recently worked as a receptionist at The Mansfield Center For Nursing and Rehabilitation. Helen was predeceased by four brothers; Anthony, Stanley, Theodore, and Edward. She was the cherished mother of Michael and his wife Jane of Sturbridge, MA, and their children John, Mary Caitlin and Caroline; Susan Spencer and her husband Eric of Mansfield Center and their sons Todd and Ben; Nancy Gyure and her husband Charles of Ashford and their daughters Jennifer, Erin and Sarah; Christine Strand and her husband Thomas of Mansfield Center and their sons Andrew and Bryan; and Timothy Switchenko of Florida, and his daughters Bree and Brooke. She also leaves a companion, Joseph Corsini of Florida. Helen was a proud communicant of St. Joseph Church, Willimantic, CT. Helen was known for her stylish appearance, her love of reading, knitting and the beach. She was a devoted mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by a large circle of friends and extended family. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday Oct. 22nd between 5:00 and 8:00pm. at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00am at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic with assembly of the procession in the church parking lot.
