Helen E. Palmer

Helen E. Palmer, 85, of Warrenville, widow of Vine Palmer Sr., died Wednesday April 7, 2004 at the Haven Health Center, Danielson. She was born Dec. 29, 1918 in Manchester, the daughter of Harry and Pearl (Heritage) Hobby. She graduated from Manchester High School in 1938 and worked at Electro-Motive in Willimantic from 1942 to 1950. After her marriage to Vine, they moved to Warrenville where she was a longtime active member of the United Baptist Church of Ashford, serving as deacon and Sunday School superintendent. She enjoyed canning, baking and sewing and made most of the family clothing in the early years. Prior to her marriage, she enjoyed making dolls and had a sizeable collection. In the last 40 years, Helen was very involved in quilting and restoration of quilts. She was a longtime member of Sturbridge Village. She is survived by 3 sons; Vine Palmer Jr. and his wife Gale of Pomfret Center, Charles H. Palmer of Warrenville and Daniel Palmer and his wife Catherine of Magnolia, DL., a daughter Ellyn Gorgorlione and her husband Robert of Willimantic, 2 sisters; Doris Hobby of Brooklyn and Barbara Hobby of E. Hartford, 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Her family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Friday April 9, 2004 from 6:00 to 8:00pm. Her funeral service will be private with burial following in the Hanover Cemetery, Sprague. A public Memorial Service will be held on April 17, 2004 at 11:00am at the United Baptist Church of Ashford, Rte 44, (Warrenville) Ashford.
