Helen N. Makray, 86, of Willimantic, widow of Geza Makray, died after a long illness, Monday April 1, 2002 at home with her family at her side. She was born January 17, 1916 in New York City, the daughter of the late Bertalan and Helen (Halasz) Juhasz. She grew up in Hungary and returned to the United States in 1931. She had been employed by the American Thread Company for 11 years and then at the Mansfield State Training School for 11 years, retiring in 1976. She was a member, past president and secretary of the Hungarian Reformed Church in Ashford. Mrs. Makray was also a past secretary of the Hungarian Social Club. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Eva and Frank Annati of Willimantic, a step-son Rudolph Makray and his wife Caroline of Ashford, a brother, Joseph Dicso of Tappan, NY, a sister, Clara Tierney of Las Vegas, NV, 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Gloria Makray and a great granddaughter Amy Mason. Her family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Willimantic, 199 Valley St., Willimantic. Burial will follow in the Woodward Cemetery, Ashford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, 565 Ashford Center Rd.
