Helen (Dubrieul) LaBranche, 89, of Bristol, formerly of Willimantic, wife of Albert G. LaBranche, died Thursday April 24, 2003 at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford. She was born Jan. 27, 1914 in Willimantic the daughter of Octave and Agnes Dubrieul. She and her husband owned and operated a "Mom and Pop" store, LaBranche's Market, at the corner of Main and Ash St. in Willimantic from 1946 to 1961. From 1962 to 1987 they operated LaBranche's Supermarket on Rte 6 in Chaplin. Helen was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Willimantic. In addition to her husband, she is survived by 2 daughters and sons in law; Dolores and Robert McGurkin of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Elaine and Leo Gonthier of Bristol, 8 grandchildren; Frances Bray, Robin Smith, Christopher McGurkin, Brian McGurkin, Lisa Suiter, Kimberly Gonthier, Valerie Gonthier and David Gonthier and 6 great grandchildren. The LaBranche family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:30am followed by the Funeral Mass at 12:00pm at St. Mary's Church, Valley St., Willimantic. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests memorial donations to the Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, Ct. 06405.
