Helen E. (Markowski) Gancarz, 85, of Mansfield, wife of the late Boleslaus Bill Gancarz, died Monday afternoon, June 6, 2005 at the Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation after a long illness. Helen was born February 1, 1920 in Hartford, the daughter of Joseph and Agnes (Chmielewski) Markowski and lived on Affleck St. in Hartford for 48 years before moving to the Wright s Way senior housing complex 19 years ago. While at Wright s Way she was active in the Mansfield Senior Center, enjoying crafts and bingo. She is survived by a son, Thomas Gancarz and his wife Barbara of Vernon, daughter Barbara Moore of Matthews, NC, daughter Dorothy Chirgwin and her husband Jeffrey of Ashford, 7 grandchildren, Kenneth Gancarz and his wife Laura of East Hampton, Deborah Gancarz of Manchester, Cynthia Moore of New York, David Moore and his wife Tammy of Matthews, NC, Michael Chirgwin and his wife Charmie of Las Vegas, NV, Teresa Doudera and her husband Gunther of Mansfield and Stephen Chirgwin and his companion Kelly Connor of Hermosa Beach, CA, 7 great grandchildren, Shelby and Benjamin Gancarz, Madison, Colby and Alayna Moore, M.J. and Ava Grace Chirgwin and Selene Doudera, a sister, Flo LaFountain and her husband Andy of Broadbrook, 6 special nieces, Deborah Yedziniak, Linda Sholomicky, Susan Levesque, Karen Caron, Ellen Avery and Nancy Lee. She was predeceased by a brother, Henry Markowski of Enfield. Her family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic on Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. prior to the procession to her Funeral Mass at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary Church, Coventry.
