Helen (Zlotnick) Fogil, 71, beloved wife of the late Harley Fogil, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday Sept. 29, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer. She grew up in Ashford and was a graduate of Windham High School. Helen was employed at Electro-Motive, American Thread and the State of CT., retiring in 1992. She served as president of CSEA Retirees Council 400. Helen enjoyed crocheting wonderful family heirlooms, maintaining her flower gardens and playing golf with Harley or anyone else who was ready for a round of golf. However, her greatest joy in life was her family, especially her "little jelly beans", "precious munchkins" and " little pumpkins". She is survived by sisters Vera Shashok of Windham and Maria Tervidis of Scotland, brothers George Zlotnick of Mansfield, Walter Zlotnick of Chaplin and Alexander Zlotnick of Ashford; 30 nieces and nephews, 32 grand nieces and nephews, 5 great grand nieces and nephews, her stepson Mark Fogil and his wife Denise and 2 grandchildren. Helen also leaves an extended family of very special friends and nieces and nephews of the heart. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, Peter and Paul Zlotnick,a sister Anna Clayton, nieces Deborah and Kimberly Zlotnick and nephews Peter J. and Peter Zlotnick. The family wishes to thank the caring and compassionate hospice staff at the VNA East along with the medical staff at the DeQuattro Community Cancer Center. Her family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00am with the funeral service beginning at 11:00am. Burial will follow in the Crystal Lake Center Cemetery, Ellington.
