Helen J. Battey

Helen J. Battey. 102, of Willimantic, widow of Earl L. Battey, died Saturday October 13, 2001 in Willimantic. She was born May 25, 1899 in Willimantic, the daughter of Emil and Josephine (Nelson) Johnson and was a lifelong resident. Helen was employed at Windham Community Memorial Hospital for 27 years and was a member of the WCMH Auxiliary. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mansfield and a member of Radiant Chapter #11 Order of Eastern Star. She is survived by 4 grandchildren, Eric C. Battey of Idaho, Kurt O. Battey of Chester, C. Mark Battey of California, Gretchen Makowicki of Essex, 8 great grandchildren with another on the way, 2 nieces, Judy Noheimer and Norma Shepard. She was predeceased by her son Richard G. Battey. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Mansfield. Burial will be private in the New Willimantic Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church, 29 Puddin La., Mansfield Center, CT 06250.
