Hazel Rubins Obituary
Hazel Irene Rubins, 98, of Storrs, CT went home on July 9, 2022. She was born on November 11, 1923 in Willimantic, CT, daughter of the late John Earl and Annie (Harvey) James.
She leaves her children Randy J. Corcoran and his wife, Deb and Penni Corcoran; stepchildren Charles Rubins and his wife Janet, and Bill; daughter in law Song Corcoran; her dear close friend Sue Gibbons; grandchildren Kelsey Solecki and her husband Joe, Joseph F. Corcoran, II and his wife Mary, and Katlin LaBarre and her husband Kyle; step-grandchildren Eric Short and his wife Megan and their children, Eldon Short, Carlos Rubins, Kim Pillon, Brad Rubins, Mark and Ed. Hazel was predeceased by her husbands, Joseph F. Corcoran, Jr., and Edward J. Rubins; her son, Terrance S. Corcoran and sister Virgina J. Mattern.
She was a sales rep for the Southern New England Phone Company, an executive secretary at the Jorgenson Auditorium at UConn for many years and volunteered at Windham Hospital and WAIM. Hazel enjoyed knitting, sewing, and was an avid reader. She liked walking, hiking, snow shoeing, cross-country skiing and traveling. Hazel also loved to entertain and frequently helped out her church. She was an avid UConn Women’s basketball fan and enjoyed dissecting every game with Terry. Chris Daley sent a signed picture of Gino and the whole team to Mom at Douglas Manor. It made her day.
Heartfelt thank you go to Douglas Manor and Beacon Hospice for the excellent and loving care of Hazel. I love all of you and truly appreciate the time and effort that went into everything that you did for her.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at 11:00am at the First Baptist Church of Mansfield, 945 Storrs Rd. Storrs, CT. Everyone knows that purple was Hazel’s favorite color, those who wish, may wear purple in her honor. Her burial will be private.
