Hazel B. Huddleston Bass

Mrs. Hazel Bernice Huddleston Bass, wife of Floyd L. Bass, Sr. for the past 61 years, passed away around 4:30PM February 8, 2010 at Masonicare in Wallingford, CT. She was born April 26, 1928 in LaPorte, IN to the late John and Josephine Huddleston, predeceased by a sister, Iolean McFadden; and a daughter, Eileen Cecile Bass. In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Marc Chapman Bass; a step-son, Rev. Floyd L. Bass, Jr.; a daughter, Lisa Bass Ealum; and 6 grandchildren, Charissa, Andrew, and Julie-Ann Bass, and Vanessa, Victoria, and Violet Ealum. Survivors also include 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. An honors graduate at LaPorte High School, Hazel attended Indiana State University and received an undergraduate degree from LeMoyne College in Memphis, a Masters Degree in Librarianship from the University of Denver, and a Masters Degree in Communications from the University of Connecticut at Storrs. Hazel taught third grade, was later a junior high school librarian at Memphis City School, and a catalogue librarian at both Alabama State University Montgomery and the University of Connecticut at Storrs, from which she retired in 1991. She was a member of First Congregational Church in Willimantic, CT. She was a Past Matron of Electa Chapter #7 at New London Connecticut; Past Most Ancient Grand Matron of the Heroines of Jericho, State of Connecticut; Past Grand Commandress of Connecticut Order of Cyrenes; and a member of the Golden Circle. Hazel was a beloved wife, an outstanding mother, and a faithful friend; she will be sorely missed. Arrangements are private and at the convenience of the family.
