Harvey M. Curtis Sr., 67, of Columbia, formerly of Windham Center, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, December 5, 2004 in Mansfield. He was born February 12, 1937 in Springfield, MA, son of the late Henry and Rosalie (Gardner) Curtis and had lived in the Windham area most of his life. He was a former member of the CT National Guard, Company B, 169th Infantry in the late 1950?s. He was employed as a general supervisor for over 30 years at the former American Thread Company in Willimantic and as a general tradesman at UConn from which he retired in April of 2003. He was an avid outdoorsman who liked fishing in particular. He also enjoyed playing poker with family and friends and trips to Foxwoods Casino. Mr. Curtis was devoted to his family. He is survived by 3 children and their spouses, Harvey and Dawn Curtis Jr. of Sterling, Darlene and Bill Ethridge of Columbia, Bryan and Carol Curtis of Coventry, 5 grandchildren, Kevin M. Curtis, Mandy L. Curtis, Joshua D. Ethridge, Jenna M. Ethridge and Jessica L. Curtis, his former wife and close friend, Mary Lou, 5 sisters, Sandy, Susan, Beverly, Hazel and Joyce, 1 brother, James, many nieces and nephews. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rt.e195, Willimantic on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private.
