Harry E Macway Sr

Harry E. MacWay Sr., 91, of Chaplin, husband of the late Margaret "Peggy" (Warinsky) MacWay, died Wednesday, October 9, 2013 in Mansfield. He was born August 27, 1922 in Chaplin the son of the late Harry and Eugenie (Nollett) MacWay. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre and a member of American Legion Post 19. Harry enjoyed the outdoors, working in his yard every day. He enjoyed camping and was a Boy Scout leader for several years when his children were young. He also enjoyed duck pin bowling and the spaghetti dinners put on at St. Philip Church. Prior to his retirement he was employed for many years at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. Harry loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his son Harry Jr. and his wife Donna of Chaplin, four grandchildren; Brian MacWay of Chaplin, Jodi Ladroga of Woodstock, Jami Young of Putnam and Eric MacWay of South Windsor, two brothers; Donald MacWay of Killingly and Walter MacWay of Georgia, three sisters; Theresa Duval of St. Croix, Virgin Islands, Eileen Molnar of Ashford and Jeanne Mott of Mansfield, six great grandchildren, eight step great grandchildren and one step great great grandchild. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a brother, David MacWay and three sisters; Patricia MacWay, Gloria MacWay and Barbara Brooks. His Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. Philip the Apostle Church, 58 Pompey Hollow Rd. (Rte. 44) Ashford. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Philip Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Harry's family would like to thank the nursing staff Windham Hospital ICU for the excellent care he was given and also Mansfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center 1st floor nurses and CNA's physical therapists for the wonderful care and support given him. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to St. Philip Memorial Fund Drive. Arrangements are through the Potter Funeral Home, Willimantic.
