Harry S. Gaucher Jr.

December 3, 1925 — June 21, 2016

Attorney Harry S. Gaucher Jr., 90, of Willimantic, CT, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, peacefully passed away on June 21, 2016 at Saint Joseph Living Center in Windham CT. Harry was born in New London, CT to the late Mae Cheney Gaucher and Attorney Harry S. Gaucher Sr. He attended Saint Mary School and Windham High School in Willimantic, CT. From 1943-1946 he served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific as a Radioman First Class on board the Destroyer Escort the U.S.S. Fieberling. After the war he attended the University of Connecticut for undergraduate and Law School. There he met his wife of 64 years the late Ann (Kasper) Gaucher. They settled in Willimantic and he went into private practice with his Father the late Harry S. Gaucher Sr. from 1952-1968. From 1952-1962 he taught Business Law at the University of Connecticut. From 1968-1986 he served as State?s Attorney for Windham County. After retiring as State?s Attorney he served as Magistrate for the Windham Judicial District for many years. Harry?s professional achievements were many. He was President of the Windham Bar Association and then President of the Connecticut Bar Association from 1972-1973. He was an active member of the American Bar Association and the Guild of Catholic Lawyers of the Diocese of Norwich. He was appointed to the first State Commission on Medicolegal Investigations where he served for 27 years and was chairman for 10 years. He loved his community and served as a member of the board of directors of the Willimantic Trust Company, Chairman and Trustee for the Hatch Hospital Corporation, Chairman of the Willimantic Advisory and Support Council for Catholic Charities and Family Services, Chairman of the Willimantic Chapter of the American Red Cross. He was a member of the Sigma, Alpha Epsilon, Fraternity, the Knights of Columbus and the Franco American Civic and Social Club. He was a committed volunteer for the Willimantic Rotary Club where he was a past president and Paul Harris Fellow. He was a lifelong supporter of St Mary Parish where he served first as an altar boy, then as a commentator, member of the school board and for many years as a parish trustee. Harry was an active member of the UCONN Alumni Association and an ardent supporter of the University sports teams. In his leisure time he and Ann enjoyed traveling with family, skiing and playing golf. He will be greatly missed by his family. He is survived by his children, Karyn (Gaucher) Bovino and her husband George Bovino of Carmel, NY, and Chip Gaucher and his wife the late Karin (Albaitis) Gaucher. He also leaves five loving Grandchildren and four Great Grandchildren who he adored. Anthony Bovino and his wife Sydney and their son Christian: Michael Bovino and his wife Kate and daughters Annie and Grace: Benjamin Gaucher and his wife Kim: Erin Gaucher and her husband Evan and their son Brady: Daniel Gaucher and his wife Meredith. He also leaves a sister Jacqueline Goettlich of VA. He is predeceased by his 4 brothers: Phillippe, Thomas, Robert and Joe Paul. His family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, June 27, 2016 between 5:00- 7:00 PM at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Route 195), Willimantic. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at 10:00 AM, St. Mary Church, 35 Valley St., Willimantic with assembly at the church. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham. For those wishing to make a donation in lieu of flowers, the family suggests, In Memory of, Harry S.
