H. David Griffin Obituary
H. David Griffin, 76, of Savannah, GA and formerly of Columbia, CT passed away on March 21, 2022. David was born on February 8, 1946 in Hartford, CT, the son of the late James and Mary (Proxee) Griffin.
He married the love of his life, AnnMarie in 1968. In 1976, then they moved to Columbia. David was a school educator. David received his Ph.D. from UConn. In the 1970’s, he began his career as an English teacher at Penny High School in East Hartford, CT. Later, he served as the vice principal at E.O. Smith and the principal at East Hampton High School. Prior to retirement, he was the principal at Andover Elementary School. Throughout his career, he touched the lives of so many students, many of the first students he had taught were still in contact with him. The kids would call him Dr. G.
David had a passion for life, always having a big smile on his face and a glow in his eyes. He was a man with a big heart who gave so much to others. He loved cooking and hosting so many parties and family events, especially his annual christmas parties where he would serve his famous glug.
David enjoyed traveling and had been to many places throughout his life, but his favorite place was Ireland where he had gone many times with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed the times that he had gone to Ireland with his sister, Pat, and brother in law, Rod. Most important to David, were the times he spent with his sons and grandchildren. David moved to Savannah and enjoyed spending his retirement there where he would always have company. He loved showing his visitors around the city of Savannah.
David leaves behind his son, Christopher and his wife Rachel and their daughters, Katie, Sarah, Dannielle, and Shannon, his son, Brendan and his wife Catalina and their sons, Liam and Nicholas, and his son, Daniel; his friend, John McGann; brother in law, Rodney Barker; brothers and sisters in law, James and Mary Patricia Sullivan and Tim and Karen Sullivan; many nieces, nephews. David was predeceased by his wife, AnnMarie; son, Kevin; and his sister, Patricia Barker.
His family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, April 1, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. Willimantic, CT 06226. His Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 10:00am at St. Columba Church, Rte 66 and Rte 87, Columbia, CT with his burial to follow at West Street Burying Grounds in Columbia. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or to a cancer charity of your choosing.
