Gwen Esther Miller Adzima, 77, of Ashford, CT died at Windham Memorial Hospital on Saturday, November 19, 2022.
Born June 15, 1945 in Bridgeport, CT, Gwen grew up in Fairfield where she lived with her mother, Charlotte (Matuskowitz) Miller; her aunt Ilene Matuskowitz; elder brother Gary Miller; and younger sister Charlotte Miller. She received a master’s degree in horticulture at the University of Connecticut, Storrs, where she met her husband, Robert Adzima. The two were married in 1968.
Gwen generously donated her time and talents as president of the Mansfield Frogs Swim Team, organizer of the breakfast with Santa at Saint Phillips Church Center in Ashford, and many other things over time. She designed and maintained gardens for her church and for the town, and designed home landscapes for people she knew. She loved to do crafts with friends, share skills such as sewing and baking with children, and have big summer picnics for her church on the family property.
Gwen was proud of her family, including her church family. Those whom she loved were many, and she loved with all her heart.
She is survived by her husband Robert; three children, Katherine Adzima Pepper (J. Kent), Kara Adzima, and Russell Adzima; and her brother Gary Miller. She is loved and missed.
A memorial gathering will take place on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 525 Ashford Center Road, Ashford. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of the Babcock Library or the Ashford Volunteer Fire Department at greatnonprofits.org.
