It is with great sadness that we note the passing of Grace Eilene Moriarty Roy while surrounded by her loving family. On the other hand there will be a bit more Jameson's for the rest of us. The world was blessed on May 4, 1931 when Grace was born at St. Joseph's Hospital in Willimantic to the late Eugene K. and Mary (Burns) Moriarty. She married Homer D. Roy, Jr. at St. Joseph Church in 1953. Homer died in 1987. Grace was a 1949 Windham High School graduate and often helped organize and plan reunions for her class; she graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in Hartford in 1952 and became an exceptional registered nurse. Grace worked at Windham Hospital but will be remembered best for her 22 A? years as the school nurse at the former Kramer Middle School where she made lasting impressions on students and staff. "Amazing" Grace was a communicant of St Joseph Church and a past president and current member of the St. Joseph's Women's Club. In addition, she worked on numerous projects and committees for the Norwich Diocese. She enjoyed the company of her family and friends and looked forward to attending parties as much as she enjoyed Sunday breakfasts and week morning coffees with "the ladies". After her retirement from "Kramer U", Grace was never home much as she was busy with her many clubs: the Breakfast Club, Roundtable, the Birthday Club, Martini Monday, and the Willimantic Irish Club. She will be missed immensely, especially when Halloween comes around and there is no one to make the glug. Besides missing Grace's feisty personality, exhilarating vocals, and deep generosity we will all miss her meat pies and onion soup. Those who knew Grace will remember her interest in all people, places, and things. She was adventurous and did not like to miss out on any event or opportunity. If anyone suggested doing something or going somewhere new she would almost always be the first to say yes because, as she would say "I've never been there before". Grace will be greatly missed by her four daughters: Shelly, Kathy, Eileen, and Patty; her three sons-in-law: Craig, Rick, and Scott; her friend and sister, Jean Carboni, and the two brightest lights of her life: grandchildren Emily and Joseph. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Monday June 27th between 9:30 and 10:30 am at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte.195) Willimantic prior to her 11:00am Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Hospice of Eastern CT, 34 Ledgebrook Drive, Mansfield Center, CT 06250, St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St., Willimantic, CT 06226, or to the charity of your choice.
