Glenn "Junior" Vargas, 65, passed away Oct 21, 2013 at his home in Canterbury after a brief but valiant battle with cancer. He was born February 23, 1948 in Putnam to the late Addie and Alfred F. Vargas Sr. of Hampton. Junior, as he was affectionately known by many, is survived by Donna, his loving wife of 51 years, his daughter Glenda Christadore and her husband Daryl of Hampton, grandchildren Jesse Davis, Cole and Kadie Christadore; brothers David Vargas of Willimantic, Wayne Vargas of Jewett City, Alan Vargas of MA; sisters Marlyn Kelehear of Storrs, Adrienne Cichon of Willimantic, Theresa Wolchesky of Norwich and Beverly Lance of Fla. He will also be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, special friends and his faithful fur buddy Duke. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Alfred Vargas Jr., Arthur Vargas, Larry Vargas, Danny Vargas and sisters Lorraine Milhomme, Virginia Maheu, Patricia Dupuis and Dorothea Loos. He wore many different hats in his lifetime, but was most notably known as the owner and operator of JR'S Excavating and for his fire wood business, although you were apt to see him doing just about any type of work, anywhere. Junior was a colorful sort of guy and get - togethers of any kind were always more fun and endlessly amusing with his presence. He journeyed through life to the beat of a different drummer. He had a wry, yet sometimes, tainted sense of humor that could easily be misinterpreted. But regardless of such times, he was the real deal, always being true to himself and in what he believed. He was of the old school where a gentleman's agreement and a handshake sealed the deal, never hesitant to help family or friends in need, knowing that no favor ever went unpaid. It was these traits that spoke volumes of the man he was and that endeared him, rough edges and all, to so many. He truly will be missed. His family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday Oct. 23rd between 6:00 and 8:00pm at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic. His funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 11:00am with interment following in Litchfield Cemetery, Hampton. For those wishing to make a memorial donation, his family suggests any organization or charity of the donor's choice. For an online memorial guestbook, please visit
