Glenn Richard Cross

Glenn Richard Cross, 76, son of Edwin Fitch Cross Jr. and Evelyn (Newhall) Miller Smeland, died February 12, 20011 at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Willimantic, CT. October 17, 1934. He was the loving husband of Gwendolyn (Brand) of Lebanon, CT. for 47 years. Glenn was the outstanding father of Jennifer Cross of Willimantic, CT., Matthew Cross of Huntsville, AL., Patrick Cross of San Diego, CA., and Heather Cross of Storrs, CT. He is survived by four grandchildren, Hunter, Devin, Jenna, and Logan, all of Storrs, CT. Glenn retired from the Connecticut Light and Power Company as a senior energy consultant after 32 years of service. He graduated from Windham High School's class of 1953, where he lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. He went on to play these sports at the University of Connecticut, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in science. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict in the 42nd field artillery unit where he was stationed in Baumholder, Germany. During that time he played football and baseball throughout Germany on temporary duty. Glenn coached youth in the Little Pal and Shoot Straight programs while his children participated. He was a member of Eastern Star Masonic Lodge No. 44, A.F. & A.M. in North Windham, The Willimantic B.P.O.Elks Lodge #1311, and a proud member of the Roy's Boys Gang. Glenn served on the Lebanon/Bozrah Energy Commission representing Lebanon, CT. He was an avid fan of the N.Y. Yankees, the Giants and the UCONN Huskies. Glenn most enjoyed the family gatherings during the holidays and special occasions. He always enjoyed playing golf with his sons and friends as well as traveling the world with his wife Gwen. His family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday Feb. 16th between 5:00 and 8:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 11:00am. Interment will be private in New Lebanon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests memorial donations in memory of Glenn to Hospice of Eastern Ct., 34 Ledgebrook Dr., Mansfield, Ct. 06250.
