Gladys Elizabeth Wright

July 2, 1926 — March 25, 2005

Gladys (Kneeland) Wright, 78, of Willimantic, wife of Francis E. Wright, died Friday March 25, 2005 at Douglas Manor in Windham. She was born July 2, 1926 in Hartford, the daughter of John and Helen (Dewey) Kneeland. Gladys had been employed at the Student Union at the University of Connecticut for many years prior to her retirement. She was an avid genealogist and was a member of the Mayflower Society, the Windham Historical Society and the Lebanon Historical Society. Gladys was working on a book entitled, Connecticut s First Ladies, a history of the governor s wives. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Willimantic and had written a history of the church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by 2 sisters, Elsie Arson of Willimantic and Julia Marshall of Windham Center; her step son and daughter in law, Richard and Adrienne Wright of Lebanon, many nieces and nephews including 2 special nieces, Beverly Arson and Eileen Marshall both of Willimantic who were devoted to Gladys. She was predeceased by her sister Esther Lignor, 2 brothers, Harold and Clarence Kneeland and her step daughter Carol Solli. Her family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Tuesday at 2:30 prior to a 3:00pm Memorial Service. Interment will be private in the North Windham Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests memorial donations to the Alzheimer s Assoc., 96 Oak St., Hartford, CT. 06106 or to the First Congregational Church of Willimantic, 199 Valley St. Willimantic, CT. 06226.
