Gladys Soracchi

November 20, 1910 — June 16, 2003

Gladys (Rice) Soracchi of Columbia, died Monday June 16, 2003 at St. Joseph Living Center in Windham after an extended illness. She was born in Columbia on Nov. 20, 1910 the daughter of Howard A. Rice and Lillian (Pinckney) Rice. She was a lifelong resident of Columbia where she was a member of the Columbia Congregational Church, the Columbia Historical Society, a gold sheaf member of the Columbia Grange and an honorary trustee of the Saxton B. Little Library where she had been the librarian for 16 years. Gladys was a teacher of over 40 years in Columbia and Manchester until her retirement in 1971. Gladys married Louis Soracchi on May 20, 1972. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Howard Westcott Rice and her husband on Nov. 1, 2000. Her family includes Dolores Soracchi of Milwaukee, WI., Joan Somers of Boston,MA., Louis John Soracchi and his wife Anne of Mansfield Center, Margaret S. Morrison and her husband Tyler, James P. Soracchi and his wife Sang Won of Bronx, N.Y. ,Tessa, Annika and Finn Morrison and several cousins. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2:00pm at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic with the Rev. Jack Zappulla officiating. Burial will follow in the Center Cemetery, Columbia. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests memorial donations to the Columbia Congregational Church, the Columbia Volunteer Fire Dept. or the Saxton B. Little Library, Columbia, Ct. 06237.
