Gerry Conover passed away peacefully on September 17, 2026 at St. Joseph’s Living Center in Windham, CT.

He was born to Margaret Gabel Conover and Alonzo Edward Conover III on 3/1/1930 in Montclair, NJ. He attended the George School, a private Quaker high school, and Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, was on the track team, and received a BS in Mechanical Engineering.

Gerry worked for a number of different companies including Curtiss Wright, MB Electronics in New Haven, CT, where he was instrumental in modifying test equipment for satellites, AAMF CUNO, and E&O Rotron in Woodstock, NY, San Diego, CA, and Mexico. He was the president of the local chapter of APICS, a professional association for material managers. He was also president of his regional Toastmasters Club.

Gerry spent many summers in his youth at Blackpoint Camp on Lake George, NY and later at a family cottage in East Marion, Long Island, NY. He was married to Barbara S Conover, who predeceased him in 2001, for 49 years, and is survived by their four children and their spouses and partners; Devon Conover (Everett Paluszak), Christopher Conover (Maria Conover), David Conover (Carla Randolph), and Beth Roberts (Kenneth Roberts); his 8 grandchildren (Michael Jacobs, Ryan Jacobs, Amanda Stygar, Rachael Torres, Jason Conover, Benjamin Roberts, Emersale Jensen-Roberts, Taylor Roberts); and 12 great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his second love and long term partner, Ann Dunkirk of South Jamesport, NY.

In retirement, Gerry was an artist and displayed his acrylic paintings and paper cutting pictures at a gallery in Greenport, Long Island, NY. He also loved to fish and work in his garden.

At his request, arrangements are private.Donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and are greatly appreciated.
