Geraldine L. Johnstone, 89, of Rockville, formerly of Mansfield, widow of F. Clarence Johnstone, died Wednesday, May 11, 2005 in Rockville surrounded by her family. She was born April 23, 1916 in South Windham, the daughter of Joseph and Florence (McNamara) Kegler and had lived in Mansfield most of her life. She was a graduate of St. Joseph School in Willimantic and Windham High School. She was employed for 40 years at the former American Thread Co. in Willimantic and also was a Foster Grandmother at EASTCONN. She is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline Meikle of Tolland, a son Arthur J. Meikle of Glastonbury, 3 great grandchildren, Jessica Lynn Newell of Vernon, Ashley Sherman of Mansfield, and Derek Smolenski of Mansfield, a grandson-in-law, Walter Smolenski of Mansfield, her niece, caretaker and best friend, Susan Newell of Tolland, a cousin Norma Croteau of Collinsville as well as several other relatives. She was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Meikle and 2 grandchildren, Derek Fryer and Jerri-Lynn Sherman. Her family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic TODAY from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the New Willimantic Cemetery.
