Gerald "Jerry" H. McGillicuddy, 68, of Lebanon, CT and Polk City, FL, died peacefully with family on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Lakeland, FL. He was born April 3, 1943 in New Brunswick, Canada, the son of the late Herbert and Dorothy (Lloyd) McGillicuddy. Jerry graduated from Windham Technical High School and worked as a machinist. He later owned and operated a gas station, Jerry's Citgo, before joining the Iron Worker's Local Union #15 in Hartford, CT. After retiring from ironwork, he rekindled his love of fixing and selling automobiles as J's Auto Sales, together with his wife, Joyce. Jerry's favorite hobby was his oxen, training and competing with several teams throughout the years, traveling throughout New England to fairs. Over the last 5 years, Jerry spent winters in Florida, a place he loved dearly. He spent his days at flea markets, auctions, tending his vegetable garden and entertaining his family when they came to visit. In addition to his wife of 47 years, Joyce (Abell) McGillicuddy, he leaves his daughter Joann and husband, David Marchand of Canterbury, CT, son Shawn and wife, Nicole McGillicuddy of Lebanon, CT and daughter, Lisa and husband, Christopher Clark of Scotland, CT and 12 grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by his brother Edward and wife, Alice (Faye) McGillicuddy of N. Stratford, New Hampshire and sisters, Margaret and husband, Woodrow Wood of Plainfield, CT and Darlene Sweet of Colchester, CT and many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Patricia McGillicuddy. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2011 from 5-7 p.m. at Potter's Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St, Willimantic, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday June 13, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the St. Francis of Assisi Church in Lebanon.
