Gerald Bienvenue Obituary
Gerald E. Bienvenue, 92 of Storrs, died on his Birthday June 16th 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. Gerald was the son of the late Romeo and Gertrude (O’Shaughnesy) Bienvenue. He enlisted in the Navy in 1950 to see the world, but only ever saw Pensacola Florida.  Gerald married Cecile (Frechette) in July of 1957, they were married nearly 61 years at the time of her passing on June 16, 2018.
Gerald was an Electrical Engineer, holding a degree from Wentworth Junior College in Worcester.  He started his career working for Kaman, in Bloomfield and finished it at UConn, in Storrs. After his retirement he enjoyed working for UConn Event Staff and volunteering at the Mansfield Community Center making coffee and giving tours.
Gerald loved spending time at “The Camp” in Charlton, swimming, boating, and making trips to Ronnies. He loved watching UConn Women’s Basketball as well as the Celtics. He spent many afternoon's watching Bob Ross and the Price is Right, and many evenings watching the news with his eyes shut.
Gerald’s most notable titles in life were Coach and Grandpa. Gerald spent many years coaching CYO Basketball at Christ the King Church in Bloomfield, as well as coaching his granddaughter’s basketball teams for the Mansfield Rec Department. He received a Public Service Award for his dedicated service and contribution as a volunteer coach in Connecticut in 2005. Gerald played videographer and stagehand for his grandchildren’s dance recitals at The Can Dance Studio. He lit up watching his great-grandchildren play hockey, lax, and attending their dance recitals. He was truly a superhero.
