George R. Trower, 88, of Hampton,husband of the late Emily(Smith) Trower, formerly of Willimantic, died Saturday January 19, 2002 in Putnam. He was born March 21, 1913 in North Hampton, VA, the son of George and Annie (Downing) Trower. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and moved to Willimantic following the war. As a young man he joined the Masonic lodge. Prior to his retirement he was employed for 16 years at the University of Connecticut. He is survived by a daughter, Carol Harris of Hampton, 2 step-sons, Robert McCrewell of South Windham and James McCrewell of Springfield, MA, a brother, Samuel Trower of Nassawadox, VA, a grandson, Keltz V. Harris of Chaplin, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 4 siblings, Helen Thompson, Edward Trower, Florence Penix and Charles Trower. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195, 1/2 mile south of Rte. 6) Willimantic on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. Burial with military honors will follow in the New Willimantic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P. O, Box 31160, Hartford, CT 06150-1160.
