George A. Guay, 81, of Scotland, husband of Fern (Syphers) Guay, died Thursday, January 14, 2010 in Windham. He was born December 21, 1928 in Hartford, the son of Louis and Ethel (McLean) Guay and was a long time resident of Scotland. George served in the U. S. Army as an MP from 1951 to 1953, was a member of Grange #69 and a charter and life member of the Scotland Volunteer Fire Department. He was employed as a building inspector for the Town of Somers and The town of Scotland, retiring in 1992. George was also a builder and cabinet maker. In addition to his wife of 59 years he is survived by a son, Randall Guay and his wife Katherine Howska of Meridian, ID, a daughter, Janet Lynn Guay of Meriden, four grandchildren, Jaime Franco and his wife Laurin of Plainville, Christopher Franco of Meriden, Nick Franco of New Haven and Heather Lees and her husband Gavin of Seattle, WA, four nieces, Cynthia, Betty Jean, Holly and Cheryl. He was predeceased by a brother, Alfred and a sister, Edith Margaret Shea. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Monday, January 18th from 1:00 to 2:00 PM with funeral services beginning at 2:00 PM.
