George W. Fraser Jr

George W. Fraser, Jr., 91, of Willimantic, beloved husband of Jacqulyn (Nelson) Fraser, died peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, August 17, 2012. He was born on February 26, 1921 in Willimantic to George W Fraser Sr. and Helen (Sharpe) Fraser. After graduating from Windham High School in 1939, he went on to serve his country in the US Air Force in World War II and later served in the Korean War. After his military service, he returned home to resume his duties at Hurley's Men's and Boy's Shop, which he eventually co-owned. He was an active member of the Willimantic Rotary Club, past president of the Willimantic Chamber of Commerce, and a long time member of the Willimantic Elk's Lodge. He served on the Board of Directors of Liberty Bank for several years as well as on the Board of Directors at the Card Home. In addition, he served as a corporator at Windham Community Memorial Hospital. He enjoyed playing golf as a member of the Willimantic Country Club. His lifelong love of Crystal Pond in Eastford, CT is where he enjoyed many years with family and friends. In addition to his wife of 67 years, he is survived by three sons and daughters in law, Robert and Donna of Plymouth, MA, Douglas and Linda of Willimantic, and Thomas and Sheryl of Windham. He was predeceased by his son William, and is survived by daughter in law, Ellen-Jo, of Columbia. He leaves behind ten grandchildren, Tracy and her husband Brian, Todd and his wife Colby, Stefanie, Tim and his wife Shirley, Jonathan, Patrick, Christopher, Steven, Courtney, and Kevin; as well as four great grandchildren, Ava, Charles, William and Cameron. His family will receive relatives and friends on Monday Aug. 20th between 6:00 and 8:00pm at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:00am with interment following in Windham Center Cemetery.
