George Luman Dunnack, 91, of Coventry, formerly of Mansfield, died Saturday, December 24, 2005 at the Windham Community Memorial Hospital. He was born on August 26, 1914, one of eleven children born to the late William Dunnack Sr. and Dorothy (Snow) Dunnack in Windsor Locks where he attended local schools. He was employed in the engineering department at the University of Connecticut in Storrs for 27 years, retiring in 1975. He was married to his first wife, Alice E. (Brown) Dunnack, who predeceased him in June of 1975. In July of 1977 he married Alice E. Caisse, widow of Francis X. Caisse, who survives him. Mr. Dunnack was a lover of all animals and birds, especially his two miniature German Schnauzers, Otto and Fritz, who will surely miss his loving and caring nature. He loved most sports, particularly skiing up north until the age of 70, golf, duck pin bowling, the Boston Red Sox and the UConn man and women s basketball teams. He was a member of the Ridges baseball team along with his seven brothers who formed the team. He was a lover of music and a member of Charles Todd s orchestra, The Serenaders in which he played the guitar. He also played the organ. Mr. Dunnack enjoyed gardening and bringing his vegetables to Foster s Market in Willimantic. He planted over 5000 trees and operated a Christmas tree farm for many years, many of which adorn his beautiful property today. In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter, Jane E. Herchenreder of North Carolina, his granddaughter, Kat Hoyden of Greenfield, MA, his grandson, Richard Herchenreder and his wife Jeannie of South Greenfield, MA, two great grandchildren, Alex and Amy Herchenreder, a stepdaughter Marie Gesner and her husband Richard of Scotland, a stepson Robert A. Caisse and his wife Patricia of Florida, several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Surviving him also is a sister, Lillian Mason of Idaho, three brothers, Robert Dunnack Sr. and his wife Jessie of Mansfield, Delton Dunnack and his wife Emma and Raymond Dunnack, all of Amston, many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Elsie Dunnack and Mae Latimer, four brothers, William Dunnack of Vermont, Jerry Dunnack of Columbia, James Dunnack of Coventry and Henry Dunnack of Willimantic. Mr. Dunnack was a person who loved the outdoors, loved to keep busy, was well liked by his family and friends alike and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
